Russian, Turkish delegations meeting in Kazakh capital as part of Syria talks

NUR-SULTAN. Aug 1 (Interfax) - Russian and Turkish representatives are meeting in the Kazakh capital on the sidelines of the 13th round of the Astana format talks on Syria, an Interfax correspondent reported.

The meeting began at around 2:15 p.m. local time. Presidential special representative for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev is leading Russia's delegation to the talks. The head of the Turkish delegation is Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal.

Syrian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar Jaafari is currently also meeting with the Iranian foreign minister's senior aide for special political affairs Ali Asghar Khaji.

According to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, the situation in Syria's Idlib governorate and in the northeast of Syria will be at the center of the August 1-2 round of the Astana format talks on Syria in the Kazakh capital. The participants will also discuss the formation and launch of the Syrian constitutional committee.
