Ambassador Huntsman fails to use potential for improving U.S.-Russia relations - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - Moscow views U.S. Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman, who tendered his resignation this week, as a professional yet he has failed to develop the potential of bilateral relations, according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

"I can tell you that we deem him to be a professional but, unfortunately, it has been impossible to use the potential of bilateral relations under the circumstances we are observing in the United States. This is what has happened," Zakharova said in a program aired on the Ekho Moskvy radio on Thursday.

Huntsman submitted his resignation statement to U.S. President Donald Trump on August 6. He is expected to leave the post on October 3.
