Russian man held on suspicion of plotting sabotage at military airfield - Security Service of Ukraine

KYIV. Aug 8 (Interfax) - Counter-intelligence officers in the Cherkasy region have arrested a Russian man on suspicion of plotting sabotage at a military airfield, Ukraine's Security service (SBU) said.

The foreigner, who lived in the region, made improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and scouted the areas adjacent to the airbase, the SBU press service stated on Thursday. Searches of his home led to the seizure of three IEDs, around two kilograms of chemicals, an electric detonator, notes containing chemical formulas, specialist literature, and drawings of how to make a bomb.

Other finds included evidence that the foreigner had been gathering information about the target of a planned attack, the SBU said.

The man has been remanded in custody.
