Militants in Syria's Idlib de-escalation area mount 30 attacks - head of Russian center for reconciliation

HMEIMIM (Syria). Aug 13 (Interfax) - Illegal armed units active in Syria's Idlib de-escalation area have again violated the truce, the Russian military said.

"Thirty attacks were observed on August 11," the head of the Russian center for reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria, Maj. Gen. Alexei Bakin, said at a press briefing on Monday.

Militants attacked Sabiqiya, Makanis al-Duwairi, Halidiyah, Al-Salihiyah, Benyamin, Qafr Hamrah, Halasa, and Qarasi in the Aleppo governorate and also the city of Aleppo, Bakin said. Other populated localities attacked by militants include Al-Salihiyah in the Idlib governorate, Saraf, Chekurdjak, Qalaz Tahtani, Qensaqi, Qermel, Al-Ziara, Janajiq, Safsafa, Muqattal, and Qinsibba in the Latakia governorate, and also Jeid in the Hama governorate, he said.

Air defense systems of the Hmeimim airbase repelled a drone attack staged by militants in the northeast on Sunday, Bakin said. Six drones were used in the attack. All of them were shot down by the base's air defenses. The incident did not entail any casualties or destruction. The Hmeimim airbase is functioning as usual.
