Azerbaijani embassy sends note to Russian Foreign Ministry over incident in Pyatigorsk

BAKU. Aug 15 (Interfax) - The Azerbaijani embassy in Moscow has forwarded an official note to the Russian Foreign Ministry due to remarks made by the Armenian ambassador to Russia at the Mashuk-2019 forum in Pyatigorsk, Azerbaijan's diplomatic mission said.

"The Mashuk-2019 North Caucasus youth forum opened in the city of Pyatigorsk on August 9, 2019. At a meeting with its participants held on the sidelines of the forum, Armenia's ambassador to Russia made unacceptable remarks about Azerbaijan, namely the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country, thus prompting a rightful protest from Sabir Rustamov, chairman of the Baku Youth Club non-governmental organization, who also attended this forum. As a result, an unpleasant incident occurred," the embassy said.

Rustamov sent a letter to the Azerbaijani embassy in Russia, offering details of the incident and asking the diplomatic mission to support him.

"Given the seriousness of this issue and the outcry it has drawn from within Azerbaijan, the embassy forwarded an official note to the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation. Furthermore, Ambassador Polad Byulbyul Ogly decided not to go to Pyatigorsk to take part in the forum and planned meetings despite an earlier agreement to do so," it said.
