Additional steps which will promote Minsk Agreements should be prepared - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Aug 20 (Interfax) - Working out new steps to promote the implementation of the Minsk Agreements on settlement of the crisis in eastern Ukraine is needed, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"Additional steps, which will contribute to the implementation of the Minsk Agreements, should be prepared," Lavrov said at a press conference on Tuesday.

The first stage of preparing a new Normandy summit should be the implementation of the agreements reached at the previous summit, he said.

"Then, one will be able to speak of preparing a new meeting," the minister said.

The implementation of these agreements, specifically the disengagement of the forces on the Donbas front line, as well as the implementation of the Steinmeier formula on the special status of this region, was discussed at a meeting between the Russian and French presidents on Monday, Lavrov said.

The meeting of aides to the heads of state of the Normandy Four countries, which was held in Paris last month, was recognized as successful both by the Russian and French sides, the Russian foreign minister said.
