Int'l checkpoint closes in Khabarovsk Territory due to floods

KHABAROVSK. Aug 20 (Interfax) - The Pokrovka-Raohe international checkpoint, which operates on the Russian-Chinese border in the Bikinsky district of the Khabarovsk Territory, will suspend operation on August 20 due to the risk of floods, the Federal Agency for the Development of State Border Infrastructure (Rosgranitsa)'s construction and management directorate said in a statement.

"International traffic through the Pokrovka-Raohe checkpoint will be suspended on August 20, following a rise of water levels in the Ussuri River," the statement said.

River traffic between Khabarovsk and Fuyuan, China, was suspended on August 10, after water levels in the Amur River reached a critical mark and the Fuyuan river checkpoint closed.

Traffic via the checkpoint between Nizhneleninskoye in the Jewish Autonomous District and Tongjiang (China) was suspended on August 2.
