Russia will not deploy intermediate-range missiles in regions without similar U.S. ones - Putin

HELSINKI. Aug 21 (Interfax) - Russia will work on intermediate- and shorter-range missiles but will not deploy them where such weapons are not deployed by the United States, President Vladimir Putin said.

"Russia will not deploy its missiles - we now will, of course, be working on such intermediate- and shorter-range systems - before relevant U.S.-made attack systems appear in this region of the world or another," Putin told a press conference after talks with Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinisto in Helsinki on Wednesday.

"So far we have not heard any response reaction from either U.S. or European partners," Putin said.
