Russian Iskander-M missile systems arrive in Kazakhstan for drills
SARY-SHAGAN. Sept 17 (Interfax) - Iskander-M tactical missile systems belonging to the Russian Central Military District's missile unit based in the Ural region have arrived in Kazakhstan to take part in the Center 2019 strategic command-and-staff exercise, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The exercise will include a simulated missile launch from the Sary-Shagan firing range targeting a mock terrorist camp. The Iskander-M complexes will be used to practice strikes on targets located several hundred kilometers away.
The Iskander-M tactical missile system is designed to destroy small-sized and area targets such as other missile systems, jet volley fire systems, long-range artillery, planes, and helicopters at airfields, command posts, and communications centers at a distance of up to 500 kilometers.
The Center 2019 exercise is taking place on September 16-21 at six combined-arms training ranges.
