PACE rapporteur on human rights in N. Caucasus asks for extending mandate for more visits - Federation Council's Kislyak
MOSCOW. Oct 1 (Interfax) - Frank Schwabe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe rapporteur on human rights in the North Caucasus, has asked for extending his mandate and plans to visit Ingushetia and Dagestan, Russian Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee first deputy head Sergei Kislyak, the head of the Federation Council delegation to PACE, said.
"The outcomes of Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Rule of Law in the North Caucasus region Frank Schwabe's visit to Moscow and Grozny have been discussed," the Federation Council press service quoted Kislyak as saying on Tuesday.
The participants in the discussion "supported the rapporteur's request on extending his mandate to visit a number of other North Caucasus regions, including Ingushetia and Dagestan," Kislyak said.
Schwabe was on a three-day working visit to Russia in mid-September to prepare a report on "the continuing need to restore human rights and the rule of law in the North Caucasus region."
While in Russia on that occasion, Schwabe visited Chechnya and Moscow, where he met with State Duma deputies and its chairman, Vyacheslav Volodin, as well as with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin.
