Aliyev says pleased with Russia's, NATO's trust in Azerbaijan

BAKU. Oct 4 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has highly assessed the trust shown by Russia and NATO in Baku.

"We are glad that it is not the first year Baku has been chosen to host meetings of the supreme command of Russia and NATO," Aliyev said at a plenary session of the Valdai Club in Sochi.

"Therefore, we view it as your expression of trust in us," he said.

Baku has already hosted four meeting between Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Gen. of the Army Valery Gerasimov and representatives of NATO's supreme military command.

For instance, the Azerbaijani capital was the venue for Gerasimov's meeting with Chairman of the NATO Military Committee General Petr Pavel on September 7, 2017, Supreme Allied Commander in Europe (SACEUR) General Curtis Scaparrotti on April 20 and December 12, 2018, and Commander-in-Chief of the NATO Joint Forces in Europe General Todd Walters on July 10, 2019.

Gerasimov also met with Chairman of the NATO Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford in Baku on February 16, 2017.
