Russia will develop offshore gas production in Crimea - minister

MOSCOW. Oct 7 (Interfax) - Russia will develop gas production off the coast of Crimea, Energy Minister Alexander Novak said, speaking to students at Russian Energy Week.

Drilling and gas production on the Crimean shelf has declined in the past few years for objective reasons, he said. As a result, gas production in the region is now about 1 billion cubic meters, while gas consumption in Crimea amounts to 2.5 bcm.

"We will develop production, we will provide the necessary support for this from the side of the Energy Ministry," Novak said. A long-term development program for Chernomorneftegaz has been drafted for this purpose, he said.

Gas from the shelf will be used for the gasification of the region, Novak added.
