Germany supports Georgia on European integration - Steinmeier

TBILISI. Oct 7 (Interfax) - Georgia can always hope for political support from Germany on NATO and European Union integration issues and the restoration of territorial integrity, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said.

"Germany is one of those who actively support the integration of Georgia into NATO and the EU," Steinmeier said at a press conference with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Monday.

Germany and Georgia are cooperating intensively on this matter, he said.

Georgia does not have "an easy geographical situation" or the most convenient neighbors, Steinmeier said. He additionally said he intends to visit the border with South Ossetia on Tuesday to become familiar with the current situation there.

Georgia can always hope for political support from Germany on issues relating to the situation in the region, Steinmeier said.
