Lukashenko calls for holding int'l summit within framework of 'new Helsinki process'
MINSK. Oct 8 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has called for holding an international summit within the framework of the "new Helsinki process" in the coming years.
"The need for holding an international summit within the framework of the new Helsinki process under the aegis of the OSCE or the UN in the coming years is increasingly obvious," Lukashenko said at the Minsk Dialogue forum on Tuesday.
"We need to adopt a strategic document on bolstering international security in the Euro-Atlantic region and beyond," he said.
It is impossible to address these issues without such a heavyweight as China, Lukashenko said.
"It is also important to take into consideration the opinion of other countries whose influence is rising on the world stage," he said.
Lukashenko said he was ready to promote the Helsinki 2 idea, the dialogue between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union, the dialogue between the Collective Security Treaty Organization and NATO, the connection of the One Belt, One Road project to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and ASEAN, and the creation of a "digital neighborhood belt."
