Russia, U.S. could act as mediators on Kurdish issue - Russian senator

MOSCOW. Oct 9 (Interfax) - Russia and the United States could act as mediators in settling the Kurdish issue in northeastern Syria, Russian Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee First Deputy Head Vladimir Dzhabarov said.

"In principle, Russia could be a mediator in settling the Kurdish issue, but it would be desirable if the Americans were there [involved in the negotiating process]," Dzhabarov said.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had announced earlier on Wednesday that Turkey was beginning a military operation east of the Euphrates River.
