Putin, Erdogan discuss Syria by phone
MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Russia in a telephone conversation on Tuesday night, the Kremlin press service said.
"Putin invited Erdogan to pay a working visit to Russia in the next few days," the press service said in a statement.
The telephone conversation took place at the Turkish initiative, it said.
The two leaders discussed the situation in northern Syria, it said.
"In particular, it stated that conflicts between the Turkish army and the Armed Forces of the Syrian government have to be prevented," the statement said.
Putin also paid attention to the escalation of humanitarian situation along the Syrian-Turkish border, it said.
