IMF Regional center to be based in Almaty - Kazakh National Bank

ALMATY. Oct 21 (Interfax) - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has selected Almaty as the location for the IMF Regional Center of Technical Support for the Countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Mongolia, the Kazakh National Bank said in a press release on Monday.

National Bank Chairman Yerbolat Dosayev held meetings with the leadership of the IMF, the World Bank, the central banks of other countries, and investment banks during his working visit to Washington last week.

"The IMF announced that it had selected Almaty, among a number of other proposed cities, as the location for the IMF Regional Center of Technical Support for the Countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Mongolia," the press release said.

In addition, Dosayev had a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. The sides discussed the existing challenges, as well as the possibilities for the Kazakh economy in the current economic situation in the world, it said.
