Putin-Erdogan agreements to help preserve Syria's territorial integrity, continue fight against terrorism - Slutsky
MOSCOW. Oct 23 (Interfax) - Results of the recent talks between the presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will help resolve the most difficult problems in the Syria settlement process, according to State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Leonid Slutsky.
"In fact, results of the many-hour meeting between Putin and Erdogan are a key to finding solutions to the most difficult problems in the Syria settlement process. Moscow has again proven to be a crucial intermediary in resolving hard regional and global problems," Slutsky told the press on Tuesday.
The sides "have reached essential agreements, which will help prevent deaths of civilians, preserve Syria's territorial integrity, and continue the fight against international terrorism," he said.
Importantly, the result has been achieved through talks, Slutsky said. "There was no blackmail, threats or the stick of sanctions, which Washington traditionally shakes. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the Sochi summit is a diplomatic win-win for Russia and Turkey. We were and we remained key strategic partners," Slutsky said.
