Russia, African Union must help settle Libya situation - rep of one of conflicting parties
SOCHI. Oct 23 (Interfax) - Abdul Hadi al-Hweij, minister of foreign affairs in the "provisional government" of Libya, based in its east and supported by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, has called on Russia to help establish peace in the country.
"We are urging the African Union and Russia to do whatever is possible to establish peace in the country on the basis of disarming the armed groups and sending arms to storage facilities," al-Hweij said during a Russia-Africa forum in Sochi on Wednesday.
He said that he had nothing to talk about with representatives of the UN-recognized Libyan government of national accord (GNA), who also attended the forum, because of the GNA support for terrorist groups.
