Russia's Volodin arrives in Strasbourg for European Conference of Presidents of Parliament

MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin has arrived in Strasbourg to deliver a speech at the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament on October 24 and also for a series of bilateral meetings with the speakers of European parliaments, the State Duma's press service said on Facebook on Wednesday.

"The chairman of the State Duma has arrived in Strasbourg where he will deliver a speech at the conference being held under the aegis of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe," it said.

It is Volodin's first visit to Strasburg since 2013, it said.

"The program of the visit is very tight: apart from attending the conference, [Volodin] will hold a series of bilateral meetings with the heads of European parliaments," the press service said.

Earlier reports said that Volodin was planning to take part in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament in Strasbourg on October 24, in a step backed by all factions at a meeting of the Council of the State Duma.

Volodin said that the program was going to be quite busy, as a whole group of the presidents of national parliaments from Europe had already announced their plans to take part in the conference.
