Kuzbass cuts coal production 2.6% in Jan-Oct

KEMEROVO. Nov 19 (Interfax) - Russia's coal-rich Kemerovo region, home to the Kuznetsk coal basin or Kuzbass, produced 206.2 million tonnes of coal in January-October 2019, down 2.6% from the same period last year, the regional administration's press office said.

This included 63.3 million tonnes of coking coal, up 5.3% year-on-year, and 142.29 million tonnes of steam coal, down 6%.

Open-cast mines produced 121.9 million tonnes of coal, down 0.9%, and deep mines produced 61.7 million tonnes, down 7.9% from a year previously.

Coal shipments by rail came to 19.8 million tonnes in October, compared with 18.7 million tonnes in September 2019 and 19.6 million tonnes in October 2018. An average daily 9,019 gondola cars were dispatched, 2% less than planned.

Overall coal shipments came to 18 million tonnes in October, with 12.9 million tonnes exported, 2.5 million tonnes shipped to Russian steel mills and coking plants and 1.44 million tonnes shipped to Russian power plants.
