CSTO to broaden its participation in peacekeeping operations - Putin

BISHKEK. Nov 28 (Interfax) - The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is set to broaden its participation in peacekeeping operations, including those held under the UN aegis, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at an expanded meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council on Thursday.

"In our opinion, issues related to the bolstering of the CSTO peacekeeping potential, the high preparedness of peacekeeping forces, and higher efficiency of their administration deserve particular attention," Putin said.

He invited the CSTO colleagues to continue the elaboration of normative, legal, and organizational documents which would enable CSTO forces to engage in UN-led peacekeeping operations.
