Russia, Ukraine in intense contacts over gas problem - Peskov

MOSCOW. Nov 29 (Interfax) - Moscow and Kyiv are in intensive talks over the natural gas problem, there is very little time left to resolve the issue, the Russian president's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"Intensive contacts are in place, and while they are ongoing it would be premature to make any assessments," Peskov told journalists on Friday.

The contacts are taking place on two levels: bilateral, and brokered by the European Commission, he said.

"Time is running out. We're pressed. But intensive contacts are under way," Peskov said.

Journalists also mentioned that there was talk of a possible gas discount for Ukraine and asked Peskov from what sum the discount would be made.

"During ongoing commercial negotiations, talking about some figures, not from the negotiators but from outsiders, is absolutely incorrect and unwise. So, for now, let's not give any explanations, either about the conditions of which the sides are talking or the prospects," Peskov said.
