Gazprom to build Novatek exploration well at Vostochno-Tambeisky block in Gulf of Ob

MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - Gazprom Flot, a subsidiary of Russian gas giant Gazprom , will build an exploration well for Novatek at the Vostochno-Tambeisky block in the Gulf of Ob, on the Kara Sea, Gazprom Flot reported.

"In the 2020 drilling season, Gazprom Flot, with the aid of the Amazon jack-up drilling rig, is supposed to build a prospecting and appraisal well at the Vostochno-Tambeisky block in Gulf of Ob of the Kara Sea," the company said.

Gazprom Flot previously drilled two wells for Novatek at other fields in the Gulf of Ob on the basis of which the gas producer plans to build liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants: the Geofizicheskoye field and the Severo-Obsky block, where the eponymous field was discovered as a result.

Gazprom Flot will also continue exploration drilling at Gazprom's Skuratovsky licensed block in 2020. There are plans to build one prospecting and appraisal well with the Arkticheskaya floating rig to confirm geological surveys on the presence of hydrocarbon reserves.

The company will also continue implementing projects off the coast of Sakhalin Island to develop the Kirinskoye and Yuzhno-Kirinskoye fields as part of its Eastern Gas Program. A total of 37 production wells need to be built at Yuzhno-Kirinskoye in order to reach target gas production of 21 billion cubic meters.

"In 2020 there are plans to build six directional wells to the productive horizon for this project using the Polyarnaya Zvezda and Severnoye Siyaniye semi-submersible drilling rigs, and starting in 2022 there are plans to increase the scale of well construction and lease a third semi-submersible drilling rig," Gazprom Flot said.
