Russian Foreign Ministry: Soleimani's killing in Baghdad reckless step by U.S., will lead to escalation in region

MOSCOW. Jan 3 (Interfax) - The assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani could cause a rise in tensions across the region, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"We regard the killing of Soleimani as a result of an American missile strike on the outskirts of Baghdad as a reckless step, which could lead to a growth of tensions across the region," the ministry said.

"Soleimani loyally served the cause of defending the national interests of Iran. We offer our sincere condolences to the Iranian people," the ministry said.
