Liberation of Warsaw in WWII to be marked by fireworks display in Moscow on Friday
MOSCOW. Jan 14 (Interfax) - The liberation of Warsaw during WWII will be marked by a fireworks display in Moscow on Poklonnaya Hill, the press service for the Western Military District told Interfax.
"On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Warsaw's liberation from Nazi invaders, servicemen of the Marshal of Artillery Vladimir Mikhalkin Separate Guards Salute Battalion of the Western Military District will carry out the first festive artillery salute in 2020," the press service said.
Roughly 3,000 festive fireworks will be set off on Poklonnaya Hill.
The Polish capital was liberated during the Warsaw-Poznan Operation on January 17, 1945.
Moscow sees regular festive fireworks marking the liberation of Soviet and European cities. Fireworks are scheduled to be set off in 2020 to honor the liberation of Warsaw, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Berlin, and Prague. Last year, Moscow hosted fireworks in honor of the liberation of Odessa, Sevastopol, Minsk, Vilnius, Chisinau, Bucharest, Tallinn, Riga, and Belgrade.
