Gas production in Chukotka grew 72% in 2019 - authorities

ANADYR. Jan 20 (Interfax) - Natural-gas production in the Chukotka Autonomous District grew 72% in 2019, to 65.5 million cubic meters, the regional government said in a statement.

"This is the highest growth [in production] compared with 2018 for any mineral resource. These volumes were made possible by the needs of the Anadyr CHP and the conversion of one of the plant's boilers to natural gas," the statement reads.

Coal production increased 16%, to almost 833,000 tonnes. The bulk came from the anchor resident of TAD Chukotka, Beringpromugol, which boosted its production by a third, to 750,000 tonnes. Shakhta Ugolnaya's indicators shrank by 41%.

More precious metals were also produced in Chukotka last year: gold mining rose 1%, to almost 24.5 tonnes, and silver mining increased 0.2%, to over 111,000. The Chukotka Mining and Geological Company accounted for the greatest volume, as it usually does, with more than 11 tonnes of gold and almost 96 tonnes of silver being produced at the Kupol field.

Five companies mined lode gold in Chukotka in 2019.
