Issue of Russian prosecutor general's appointment to be addressed by Federation Council on Jan 22 - Matviyenko
MOSCOW. Jan 20 (Interfax) - The issue of the Russian prosecutor general's appointment will be addressed in the coming meeting of the Federation Council on January 22 after being considered by the relevant committees, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said.
"I have ordered the Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State development and the Committee on Defense and security to consider the submitted candidacy in accordance with the established order. A joint meeting of the two committees is scheduled for tomorrow," she said.
If approved, the issue of the prosecutor general's appointment will be submitted for the coming meeting of the Federation Council on January 22," the Federation Council press service quoted Matviyenko as saying.
The presidential press service said earlier on Monday Vladimir Putin had proposed the candidacy of Igor Krasnov, deputy head of the Investigative Committee, for the post of Russia's prosecutor general.
