Six extremists detained in Dagestan - source

MAKHACHKALA. Jan 23 (Interfax) - The Dagestani branch of the Federal Security Service (FSB) has thwarted the activities of a cell of the at-Takfir wal-Hijra international extremist organization (banned in Russia), an informed source told Interfax on Thursday.

"Measures taken on January 23 resulted in the detention of six Russian citizens, ringleaders and active members of the at-Takfir wal-Hijra cell. Books and digital media containing extremist materials were found in the course of searching their residences," the source said.

The measures were taken in furtherance of the criminal case opened on January 14, on counts of organizing the activity of an extremist organization.
