LPR reports discovery of 2 large ammo caches
LUHANSK. Jan 24 (Interfax) - Officers from the State Security Ministry of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) have discovered two caches of weapons containing more than 10,000 pieces of ammunition, the press service for the State Security Ministry told Interfax.
"Security officers have found two caches left by Ukrainian sabotage-reconnaissance groups, containing ammunition and other weapons, near the armed conflict line," the ministry said in a statement.
The caches were planted on the grounds of a cottage house. Both contained a total of more than 10,000 munitions, including mortar rounds, landmines, and cartridges, the statement said.
The ammunition is Ukrainian, whose military meant to use it "to carry out large-scale acts of sabotage and terrorism in our republic," it said.
"Urgent measures are underway to identify those who planted the caches and whether the seized ammunition was used in earlier terrorist attacks staged in the republic," the statement said.
On January 14, the Ukrainian military reported the discovery of a cache of weapons and ammunition in the Volnovakha district, Donetsk region, bordering the dividing line. "A cache of weapons and ammunition has been found in one of the derelict buildings close to the dividing line. The total find amounted to one VOG-17 [grenade] shot, two [rocket propellant grenades] RPG-22s, a 25-cartridge machinegun belt, seven 7.62mm cartridges, and more than 190 5.45mm cartridges," the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service said on its website.
