Mideast Quartet should be engaged in assessing U.S.-proposed 'deal of century' - Lavrov
MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax) - The Middle East Quartet of international mediators should analyze the so-called deal of the century for settling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"Certainly, I would prefer the quartet of international mediators, which involves Russia, the U.S., the UN, and the European Union, to analyze this situation too; this mechanism has been virtually idle and therefore has not been engaged in past years to help find commonly acceptable solutions," Lavrov said at a joint press conference with South Sudanese Foreign Minister Awut Deng Acuil on Tuesday.
"Rumors are rumors, but we must wait for official proposals and understand before everything else the attitudes of concerned parties to these proposals," he said.
