UK to discuss with other parties UNSC summit proposed by Russia - UK ambassador
MOSCOW. Feb 3 (Interfax) - The UK will discuss Russian President Vladimir Putin's call to hold a summit of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (UNSC) in 2020, with the other parties, British Ambassador to Russia Deborah Bronnert said in an interview with the newspaper Kommersant published on Monday.
London received the offer on the evening of January 24; it will give serious consideration to the possibility and will discuss the idea with the other parties, Bronnert said.
She also confirmed that the UK has been invited to take part in the 75th anniversary celebrations of Victory in WWII in Moscow.
The ambassador could not say what the British response to the invitation might be.
Putin called for a summit among Russia, China, the United States, France, and the UK dedicated to the most pressing global affairs in his speech at the international forum entitled "Remembering the Holocaust. Fighting Antisemitism" in Jerusalem on January 23.
