Aliyev meets with NATO supreme allied commander in Europe, latter to meet with Russian General Staff chief
BAKU/MOSCOW. Feb 6 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with NATO's Supreme Allied Commander in Europe Tod Wolters in Baku on Thursday, a statement on the Azerbaijani presidential website said.
"President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by NATO's Supreme Allied Commander in Europe Tod Wolters on February 6," the statement said.
Wolters is expected to meet with Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov in Baku later in the day.
The Azerbaijani capital has recently become a routine venue for talks between the supreme military command of Russia and NATO.
Gerasimov and Wolters last met in Baku on July 10, 2019. They discussed the situations in Afghanistan and Syria and incident prevention measures, the Russian Defense Ministry said at the time.
Baku hosted Gerasimov's meeting with NATO Military Committee Chairman Stuart Peach on November 26, 2019.
