Russian military thwarts major threats for Russia eliminating large groups of terrorists in Syria - Putin

MOSCOW. Feb 23 (Interfax) - Russian troops in Syria destroyed well-armed terrorist groups and prevented major threats for Russia at distant frontiers, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"Today, Russia's security is in reliable hands, our officers and soldiers insistently and consistently and at the new level are undergoing combat training and increasing their military skills during strategic drills and trainings, as well as during marches," Putin said at a festive concert on the occasion of the Fatherland Defenders' Day.

They confidently confirmed their high professionalism and combat capabilities, the strength of spirit and their best qualities during the military operation in Syria, Putin said. "They eliminated large and well-equipped terrorist groups, thwarted major threats for our motherland at distant frontiers, and helped the Syrians save the sovereignty of their country," the Russian president said.

The head of state again thanked all of the participants of the military operation in Syria for their military service.
