Mail.ru Group paid 1.6 bln rubles for controlling stake in online education co Skillbox

MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Mail.ru Group paid 1.6 billion rubles for a controlling interest in online education company Skillbox, the Russian Internet group said.

Mail.ru Group acquired another 50% of Skillbox in December, increasing its stake in the company to 60.33%.

"The investment will enable us to strengthen our positions on the EdTech market. Using accumulated resources and experience, we will make Mail.ru Group's education ecosystem even more successful," a spokesman for Mail.ru Group said in December.

Mail.ru Group materials show that the company paid 1.6 billion rubles for the acquired stake.

Skillbox is focused on courses in four areas: design, programming, marketing and management. The service has about 86 educational programs.

Skillbox's other shareholders are its four founders: Andrei Anischenko, Igor Koropov and Dmitry Krutov, who now hold 10.33% each, and Sergei Popkov with 8.7%.
