Moldova bans mass events, suspends flights to/from Italy over coronavirus fears

CHISINAU. March 10 (Interfax) - Moldova has banned mass events over coronavirus spread fears, Moldovan Health, Labor and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu said.

"The national extraordinary public health commission has decided to ban the organization of cultural, sports, and other mass events in Moldova due to the threat of the Covid-19 spread," Dumbraveanu said.

The commission has also decided to introduce a number of restrictive measures to minimize the likelihood of the importation and spread of the infection. In particular, it decided to suspend flights to and from Italy. Moldovan airlines have also been told not to board non-Moldovan citizens planning to travel to Moldova from Italy, Iran, China, and South Korea.

Ten adults and two children in Moldova are currently being tested for the new coronavirus, and the results of their tests should be available by the end of the day, Dumbraveanu said.
