Gunman killed while attacking checkpoint in Ingushetia on Tuesday is related to man involved in similar attack in 2017 - source
MAGAS, Ingushetia. Dec 31 (Interfax) - Investigators have identified the gunmen who attacked a traffic police checkpoint at the entrance to Magas, the capital of Ingushetia, and who were killed by return fire, an informed source told Interfax.
"The gunmen who attacked a traffic police checkpoint in Magas have been identified. Preliminary findings indicate that the neutralized gunman is Miziyev, a resident of Karabulak. The injured gunman has been identified as Imagozhev, he is now in the hospital," the source said.
The gunman killed by police is a relative of Magomed Miziyev, a 20-year-old resident of Ingushetia, who injured three policemen at a traffic police checkpoint in the village of Yandare on October 19, 2017.
Magomed Miziyev drove a Lada car and first knocked down a policeman, then got out of the car and attacked other policemen with a knife, injuring two of them. Policemen opened fire and killed the attacker.
Two weeks later, on November 5, 2017, two other gunmen attacked the same checkpoint in Yandare and were shot and killed by policemen.
The local police department had told Interfax earlier on Tuesday that unidentified gunmen attacked traffic police officials at the entrance to Magas at about 5:30 p.m. Three police officials suffered injuries in the attack. The gunmen were neutralized.
