Kazakhstan to ban import of cars more than five years old by individuals
ASTANA. Nov 2 (Interfax) - The Kazakh Transport Ministry has established new requirements for cars imported by individuals for personal use - vehicles must meet an environmental class of at least Euro-5 and be no more than five years old from the date of manufacture.
The ministry's corresponding order has been published in the Reference Control Bank of Regulatory Legal Acts of Kazakhstan.
The age and environmental class of imported cars were not previously regulated.
The document amends and supplements order no. 342 of the acting investment and development minister of March 26, 2015, on approval of permissible parameters of motor vehicles intended for movement on the highways of Kazakhstan.
According to the amendments, the release into circulation of cars imported by individuals for personal use in Kazakhstan will be permitted subject to two conditions: compliance with environmental class 5 or higher, and a period of no more than five years from the date of the vehicle's manufacture.
The requirements apply to vehicles included in the list of certain types of motor vehicles and motorcycles and trailers thereto that are vehicles for personal use, approved by decision no. 74 of the board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) of June 30, 2017.
The order enters into force 60 calendar days after the day of its first official publication - on December 30, 2026.
