Russia willing to share agricultural technologies with countries in Africa - Putin

MOSCOW. Oct 29 (Interfax) - Russia is a stable supplier of agricultural produce to countries in Africa and is willing to share its own expertise and technologies in the field of agricultural business, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the first plenary meeting of the Russia-Africa summit on Thursday in Moscow.

"Russia is prepared to share its expertise and technologies in the agricultural business field with African countries. Yesterday, we browsed the exhibition organized for our forum with colleagues, and we listened to the proposals of my colleagues, especially the Agriculture Ministry, on joint work in this sector. This, by the way, relates not only to agriculture, but all other sectors of the economy as well," Putin said.

"Fundamentally, we are convinced that using modern agricultural technologies and organizing agricultural production in the right way, Africa will be able not only to feed itself in future, but also to become a major exporter of various food types," Putin said.

The president said that Russia was a stable supplier of food and agricultural produce to African markets and had shipped over 18 million tonnes of grain, and another 13 million tonnes in the first nine months of 2026. "Russia exported around 1.5 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers last year, and this has already exceeded 2.2 million tonnes this year," he said. He said that this was "a specific, tangible contribution to ensuring food security across the whole of Africa".

Putin also said that Russia invested the necessary funds into the budget for the UN Food Program each year, which are used for projects supporting the agricultural industries of countries in the continent, and regularly provides humanitarian aid to African countries in need.
