Rosatom, Iran sign agreement on small NPPs, have agreements for eight units

MOSCOW. Oct 28 (Interfax) - Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom has agreements with Iran on eight power units, including a signed agreement on small nuclear power plants (NPP), Izvestia reported Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev as saying.

"Appetite comes with eating. We have signed agreements on another eight units. And in the fall an agreement was signed on the construction of small power units in the interests of Iran," Likhachev said, without specifying whether all eight units are small or whether they also include large ones.

He said construction is continuing on the second and third units of the Bushehr NPP and 142 people are currently at the site.

Earlier, Likhachev only said that the company saw prospects for the possible expansion of its construction projects in Iran, as regards both large and small NPPs. "And we have big prospects with Iran to expand construction of both powerful, gigawatt units and small plants," he was quoted as saying by Vesti.

Rosatom already operates one plant in Iran, the Bushehr NPP, the first unit of which was delivered in 2013. Construction of the second phase - units two and three with combined capacity of 2,100 MW - began in 2016.
