Russia-U.S. diesel deal strictly business, no conditions - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Oct 27 (Interfax) - The Russia-U.S. diesel deal was not conditioned on any political steps of the sides in other areas, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"As to the agreements announced after a phone call of President Putin and President Trump to deliver diesel fuel, a shortage of which the United States deems to be inadequate to the global market demand, is a strictly business deal," Lavrov said at a meeting with editors-in-chief of African media outlets.

There were no conditions, like "we buy our diesel fuel, and you do something in the political field, the field of security problems in the Strait of Hormuz, or anywhere else," he said.

'There were no conditions at all, It was a strictly pragmatic approach of the reasonable leaders who care for the economies of their countries and the global economy, and put the interests of citizens above the task of resolution of any geopolitical issues," Lavrov said.
