Algeria invites Azerbaijani companies to participate in tenders for seven oil and gas blocks

BAKU. Oct 26 (Interfax) - Algeria has invited Azerbaijani oil and gas companies to take part in Algeria Bid Round 2026, an international tender encompassing seven exploration blocks, the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons said in a statement.

These proposals were voiced by Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab and Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov at the 28th ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Moscow on Monday.

During talks, the parties discussed prospects for cooperating in the field of hydrocarbons, especially in servicing wells, developing fields, transporting hydrocarbons, oil refining and petrochemicals.

"The parties have discussed the possibility of investments and a partnership between companies in both countries, especially between the Sonatrach group and the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR), at various stages in the cycle of creating value in the hydrocarbon sector," the message reads.

The ministries also discussed expanding the exchange of technical and technological experience and collaboration in the field of staff training. They also exchanged views on the situation on world oil and gas markets, on ensuring stability on markets and energy security. The parties said it was important to continue consultations and coordination within OPEC, OPEC+ and the GECF.

The Azerbaijani Minister of Energy reported in turn that the ministries had discussed hosting the first meeting of a joint working group dedicated to cooperation in oil and gas in November 2026 in Baku, and a meeting of a joint commission on trade and economics and cooperation in science and research in the first half of 2027.

Algeria Bid Round 2026 is Algeria's second ever hydrocarbon field development tender. The blocks on offer in the current round are mainly located in basins in eastern and central Algeria. Six of them are being offered as part of a production sharing agreement (PSA) and one as part of a participation agreement (PA).
