Russian, UAE parliamentary speakers discuss BRICS cooperation

NEW DELHI. Oct 26 (Interfax) - Russian Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin has met with the United Arab Emirates' Federal National Council President Saqr Ghobash to discuss Russian-Emirati inter-parliamentary dialogue and the two countries' coordination within BRICS.

"The dynamic of our relations is set by our leaders, our heads of state. For our part, we should endeavor to do all we can to make our contribution through the prism of the parliamentary dimension so there is a concrete end result," Volodin was quoted on the Duma website as saying at the meeting.

In 2025, trade between the two countries rose significantly compared with 2024 and the number of Russian tourists choosing the UAE as their holiday destination has also increased, he said.

The Russia-UAE relations "constitute a strategic partnership and are based on mutual respect and mutually beneficial interests," Saqr Ghobash said, also expressing his appreciation for the opportunity to discuss bilateral issues with Volodin.

He congratulated Volodin on having been elected as Duma speaker. This would enable the two sides to continue their joint work and preserve the inter-parliamentary relations at a high level, he said.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 12th BRICS International Parliamentary Forum.
