Roscosmos actively moving in direction of using AI instruments - Roscosmos head

MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax) - Roscosmos cannot miss the pivotal moment for developing artificial intelligence (AI), which has now happened in the world, Roscosmos General Director Dmitry Bakanov said at a meeting with students of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.

Many big foreign companies attack a lot of importance to the development of AI technologies, investing considerable money in it, he said. In three years, mankind can get a technical device that was fully designed and produced by artificial intelligence, he said, citing tentative estimations.

"This pivotal moment cannot be missed. AI is a costly thing, programmers are now actively going there, the demand for and prices of chips are going up. And we are moving in this direction very actively. I am deeply convinced that we can take this challenge from the point of view of the mathematical school," Bakanov was quoted as saying by the Roscosmos press service.

The aerospace industry is already introducing AI instruments in its operations, he said.

As an example, Bakanov mentioned the use of neuronets for processing space images taken by remote Earth sensing satellites, which helps improve their quality and single out the necessary objects.

Besides, Sber's neuronet GigaChat has been delivered to the Russian segment of the International Space Station, where it helps the cosmonauts save time when making reports in their scientific research, Bakanov said.
