Russia, China broadening use of Northern Sea Route as new global transport route - Mishustin
ST. PETERSBURG. Oct 21 (Interfax) - Russia and China are broadening the use of the Northern Sea Route as a new global transport route with a focus on cooperation to ensure food security for both countries, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at the narrow-format session of the 31st meeting of the Russian and Chinese prime ministers.
Bilateral relations are strategic and embrace oil, gas, coal and nuclear power, Mishustin said. "In the transport sector, we are increasing bilateral cargo transit, expanding the capacity of crossing points on the Russian-Chinese border, and broadening the use of the Northern Sea Route as a new global transport route," Mishustin said at a meeting with Chinese State Council Premier Li Qiang in St. Petersburg.
The sides "focus on the interaction in agriculture and the provision of food security for Russia and China," he said.
