Azerbaijan wants to start purchasing gas from Gazprom again - SOCAR deputy CEO
MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan wants to start purchasing gas from Gazprom again, Deputy CEO of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) Elshad Nasirov said at Russian Energy Week 2026.
He said that SOCAR had already purchased gas from Gazprom in the past.
"SOCAR is the only company in the world which started out buying gas from Gazprom and then began supplying gas to Gazprom, and now we want to start buying and exchanging gas with Gazprom once again", Nasirov said. He joked that "selling gas to Gazprom" was much more pleasant than buying gas from Gazprom.
"In conversation with journalists, the executive said that nothing specific had been decided with regard to possible volumes and deadlines". We bought gas and sold gas to Gazprom and did seasonal swaps, which is a normal working process", he said.
