Alfa-Bank acquires 4.85% of Medsi, purchasing share from AFK Sistema
MOSCOW. Oct 13 (Interfax) - Alfa-Bank has become a minority shareholder of the Medsi clinic network, having bought 4.85% of the asset from PJSC AFK Sistema , the financial organization said.
Medsi is an asset "with excellent growth prospects and ambitions for presence on public markets," Alfa-Bank First Deputy Management Board Chairman and Director for Large and Medium Business Vladimir Voeikov said.
"We view this deal as the beginning of a long-term financial partnership, within which we will help unlock the company's potential ahead of its possible stock exchange listing," Voeikov was quoted as saying by the bank.
AFK Sistema remains the controlling shareholder of Medsi with a 90.64% stake. The financial parameters of the deal were not disclosed.
"The entry of a major financial partner into our medical asset confirms the company's maturity and the effectiveness of AFK Sistema's shareholder strategy, aimed at growing market leaders and monetizing its investments. The deal is a natural step in preparing the company for a possible stock exchange listing in the medium term. The appearance of such an anchor partner as Alfa-Bank will contribute to the further scaling of the business and opens up additional opportunities for realizing mutual synergies," AFK Sistema's press service told Interfax.
The corporation also said that, in addition to Alfa-Bank, several large institutional groups and funds retain an active interest in investing in Medsi, which may additionally invest in the company within the current pre-IPO round, or already at the stage of the actual public offering.
The investments in the asset "fully correspond to Alfa-Bank's strategy of forming a portfolio of promising financial investments," Alfa-Bank said.
The bank plans to continue the further development of direct investment through the acquisition of predominantly minority stakes in growing businesses, it said. "When investing, the bank adheres to a flexible sectoral approach and uses a wide range of instruments, including the acquisition of stakes in private companies, debt and convertible financing, investments in public instruments and real estate transactions," it said.
As of June 30, the Medsi clinic network unites 143 clinics and a home care service. The total area of the assets is 334,600 square meters.
The company increased revenue 14% in H1 2026 to 34.5 billion rubles, and the combined revenue of all clinics under the Medsi brand (including those opened together with partners and under franchise) amounted to 35.6 billion rubles. The company's OIBDA amounted to 7.4 billion rubles (up 15.6% year-on-year), and net profit was 3.1 billion rubles.
Medsi Group's business growth strategy is focused on the regional expansion of the medical business, R&D, innovations and the further development of digital services and products, Alfa-Bank said.
In June, Tagir Sitdekov, who at that time was head of AFK, told Interfax about plans to attract a pool of investors into the capital of the medical and hotel assets from the corporation's portfolio, including Medsi.
"We had the idea to first do private deals and after this take the hotel and healthcare assets to IPOs. The companies are absolutely ready for a public offering, they've been preparing for a fairly long time. And we will target the first most comfortable window after the deals," Sitdekov said.
