Tajikistan to expand electricity exports to Afghanistan's Badakhshan
DUSHANBE. Oct 7 (Interfax) - Tajikistan's Pamir Energy and the Afghan state energy company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) have signed amendments in Dushanbe to the agreement on electricity supplies to the border districts of Afghanistan's Badakhshan province.
According to Pamir Energy, the amendments provide for the continuation of electricity supplies to the districts that currently receive it through Pamir Energy's networks, as well as the expansion of exports to Badakhshan.
The parties also agreed to continue the electrification of the border districts. For this, Pamir Energy built and commissioned the 110 kV Kozideh substation in the Ishkashim district of Tajikistan's Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAR). According to the company's information, the substation will make it possible to supply surplus electricity to Afghanistan.
In turn, DABS expressed its readiness to begin constructing power transmission lines on Afghan territory. The parties discussed the possibility of laying a 110 kV power transmission line to the administrative center of Badakhshan province, Fayzabad.
The implementation of these plans will make it possible to increase the number of electricity consumers in Afghanistan's Badakhshan, including in Fayzabad and Baharak.
Pamir Energy is engaged in the production, transmission and distribution of electricity in the GBAR, and also supplies electricity to the border districts of Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, in particular Mohi-May, Nusay, Shughnan and Ishkashim.
