Armenia, Turkey discuss restoring power line between them

YEREVAN. Oct 6 (Interfax) - Armenian Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Minister Davit Khudatyan discussed the restoration of the power line between Gyumri, Armenia and Kars, Turkey with a Turkish delegation led by the chairman and CEO of the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS), Mustafa Pustu.

"We discussed the work to restore and bring into operation the Gyumri-Kars power transmission line as part of the Armenia-Turkey normalization process. We emphasized the importance of interconnecting the electricity systems of Armenia and Turkey in the context of both bilateral and regional cooperation," Khudatyan wrote on social media.

He said the Turkish delegation also met in Yerevan with the management of Armenia's Electro Power Systems Operator and High Voltage Electric Networks.

In September, representatives of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia discussed the possibility of integrating the three countries' power grids and connecting to Turkey's electricity system.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the energy systems of Armenia and Azerbaijan will be connected to one another as part of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity project (TRIPP). This project will connect Azerbaijan proper to the Nakhchevan exclave with a 42 km road through Armenia, and subsequently to Turkey.
