European Commission disburses 157 mln euros to Moldova to support economic growth, reforms
CHISINAU. Oct 5 (Interfax) - The European Commission has decided to disburse an additional 157 million euros to Moldova under the Growth Plan for the country designed for 2025-2027 with a total budget of 1.6 billion euros, the commission said in a statement.
"This third instalment under the growth plan for the Republic of Moldova follows the [European] Commission's positive assessment that Moldova had successfully fulfilled 18 reforms linked to the growth plan, covering all seven areas of the plan: private sector development, economic resilience, economic governance, social cohesion and labor markets, energy, green transition, and good governance," it said.
The decision was made at the 10th EU-Moldova Association Council on Monday.
With this additional payment, the total amount made available to Moldova under the Growth Plan reaches 661 million euros.
Chisinau signed an agreement with the EU in May 2025 to implement a reform and growth program for Moldova for the 2025-2027 period. The principal amount of the financing, 1.5 billion euros, consists of long-term concessional loans with a repayment period of up to 40 years, including a grace period of up to 10 years. An additional 385 million euros is to be provided in grants.
As reported, the Moldovan government requested 157 million euros in funding from the European Commission in July after implementing 18 out of the 20 reforms outlined in the 2025-2027 economic growth reform program in the first half of the year. The European Commission must approve the reform implementation before the next installment can be released.
The government reported that the reforms carried out in the first half of the year focused on strengthening energy security, digitalizing public services, combating corruption, protecting the environment, and supporting the business climate.
The Moldovan government also announced that another 40 reforms would be implemented in the second half of 2026, which should help mobilize an additional 380.8 million euros in funding. Another 67 reforms with total funding of 593.4 million euros are planned for 2027.
In 2025, the funding disbursed under the Growth Plan for Moldova totaled 289 million euros.
